Mission
The balance between man and nature must be restored. That is why we want to encourage people to behave in a sustainable way and contribute to the creation of a sustainable circular society with our projects.
Work together to rebalance the nature of our living environment and save our planet for future generations. The transition to a sustainable society is urgent, we still have about nine years to realize the energy transition and to combat global warming by 1.5 degrees.
This means reaching out to diverse social groups and educating children and young people more about what's going on regarding the adaptations we need to make to combat climate change. With a positive approach and with playful interactive teaching packages, we can offer insight into what is already going on on and around the islands with sustainable living labs. We can achieve a lot by working hard on positive insight and education.
In this way, to create awareness more quickly and to work together and to search for creative solutions for a sustainable society. The documentary Sustainable Islands is finished. There is a lot of interest in the completed documentary Sustainable Islands, after the film was shown there was also a lot of demand for educational material from the field. After three years of shooting, there is still enough film material for extra short informative films about living lab projects on the islands and more attention for various topics and for in-depth knowledge.
The initiators therefore want to continue working on a large overarching and connecting education project and a special interactive site as a platform, where organizations, schools and interested parties can find everything about change towards a sustainable society on and around the islands and developments around freshwater and water. salt water and ecology.
A platform for education and visual material about sustainable islands. Sustainable Islands provides a picture of governments, idealists and companies that use the possibilities of the Dutch islands for sustainable developments and pilot projects. Themes of the so-called climate tables, the sustainable themes that deal with transition thinking. "Education about the transition to a sustainable society and how the islands can be used as a testing ground for sustainable changes with regard to the environment, nature, villages and cities on the islands"
The sector themes are: energy transition, nature and environment, mobility, agriculture, built environment, and forestry/biodiversity, the topics are covered with regard to how to do that on the islands. The focus is on water management, generating energy with water, sea level rise and the use of our Delta Works and islands as combination projects for energy generation with water, wind and sun and sustainable changes in nature and the environment on and around the islands.
Due to the warming of the climate a lot is changing, what are we going to do with that warming and sea level rise in the area. What else can we do to combat global warming, how can we involve children and young people more? Art and culture. We also work with the help of: with stories, films and art projects. We will use these resources to generate attention for the urgency of a sustainable society. For example, we encourage participants to think about how they can contribute through education and information. We can already learn a lot by looking at existing projects and thus contribute towards a sustainable society.
Above all, we want to stimulate creativity and innovative thinking. It is important to connect and collaborate: to connect people and organizations and to map out what is available in this area.
We develop teaching packages and we look at what is it like at other organizations. The large education organizations can use our learning and film materials and can roll out these Sustainable Islands packages in all municipalities in the Netherlands.
Platform will be a playful innovative and artistic website to provide information about what is happening in the regions of the islands and the Delta. In this way, to bring out even more how people work here in the Netherlands.
